Building Leadership

Day #1:
Arrive at Ben-Gurion Airport (around noon) – transfer to hotel.

After a short rest and time to settle in, we will hold our first session on the remarkable beach of our hotel on the Mediterranean Sea. The session includes getting better acquainted, setting ground rules for the tour and workshop, defining team building objectives, and an opening discussion on "Leadership at Times of Crisis", facilitated by a retired Colonel and former Chief Psychologist of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Let's party! While our mouthwatering BBQ is being prepared, we'll take a stimulating night swim in the warm Mediterranean water, followed by in- and off-water simulation exercises. While we are getting dry, a secret trail will lead us to a beautiful spot, where our campfire is ready, the meat is juicy, the beer is cold, and hearts are opened…..

Day #2:
We start our day with a fascinating journey through the ancient Roman city of Caesarea. In this simulation session, we go back 2,000 years to understand how King Herod was a model of leadership through crisis: Successfully ruling a tough nation, fortifying his monarchy, and becoming the biggest builder of ancient Israel.

Later, the ancient Roman theatre will be the perfect place to meet a musical maestro and conductor of the Israeli National Philharmonic Orchestra, who will share his fresh and unconventional perspective on leadership, aptly entitled "Conducting an Orchestra – a Leadership of Perfection."

Afternoon, we travel north to visit Rafael – Israel's national Armament Development Authority (www.rafael.co.il), one of the country's leading developers and producers of various kinds of armaments, many in use by the U.S. Armed Forces.

We'll continue with an evening walk followed by dinner in the colorful, busy, oriental bazaar of the old city of Akko (Akre).

What could be a better way to close the day, then loosening up and having a few laughs in one of Haifa's colorful bars?

Day #3:
Going back 500 years to the origins of Kabbala, we shall visit the town of Zafed, nestled between the beautiful mountains of the upper Galilee. This is an apt venue to discuss a Rabbi's surprising views about: "The 40-Year Leadership of Moses - a Great Nation's shepherd".

Later, we visit Plasan Sasa (www.plasansasa.com), world leader in add-on armor systems in Kibbutz Sasa.

Going eastbound to Golan Heights, we shall host a fomer Battalion Commander in the Yom Kippur war and a two-time recipient of the IDF's highest Medal of Bravery. Very few people have such an intimate acquaintance of what "Leadership on the Battlefield" really means. This Commander led his armored battalion — just a handful of tanks which held strong against two Syrian armored regiments.

Dinner is going to be "something else" — we will each be hosted in a Kibbutz family home, surely the best way to understand the ideals behind this communal way of living.

Day #4:
We'll be breakfasting with the former basketball coach of Israel's leading team, Maccabi Tel Aviv, who will share his experience with "Coaching Leadership – a Unique Challenge."

For the rest of the day, we will hold our internal company workshop on a tiny island nearby, populated only by birds and sea-shells. The workshop will focus on our coming organizational change, but we'll make time for some swim breaks and you will be able to show off your culinary skills at the "cooking lunch contest."

In the evening, we will enjoy the sights and tastes of the quaint resort town of Zichron Ya'acov.

Day #5:
We kept the best for last – Israel's crowning glory — Jerusalem, the heart and soul of the country. We will follow the footsteps of King David, Jesus Christ, John the Baptist, Richard the Lionheart, the Prophet Mohammed, and see where it all began — Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

We'll eat dinner in a unique restaurant located in a Jerusalem monastery.

Day #6:
Time to go south. Leaving early, we're heading to the Judean Desert to hike the Rahaf Canyon, with a challenging rappelling (abseiling) at its dry waterfalls. Bring your sports shoes and all the courage you've got…

Going through the lowest place on earth, the Dead Sea, we reach the amazing cliff of Massada, where we're going to simulate one of the world's most well-known leadership dilemmas in history. 2,000 years ago, after a three-year siege, a young leader of a thousand men, women, and children faced the most dreadful moment of leadership in crisis — having to choose between slavery under Romans or a mass act of suicide. Tracking his decision making and its results is quite an eye opener.

The closing session on leadership, held at the inspiring foothills of the Judean desert, will be followed by our farewell party – we won't give away any of the surprises we have planned. Just bring good spirits, hearty appetites, and lots of enthusiasm – we'll do the rest!

Day #7:
Time to say goodbye – after an early wake-up, off we go to Ben Gurion airport and on our way back home. Come again soon!

...To achieve this goal it is of course necessary to be connected to key cultural personalities in the country we are... More recommendations
